Cottesloe Primary students from Year 1 to 6 participate in an engaging and rich Japanese Language program. Participation in this program addresses the Cross Curricula Priority – Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia. Students learn about and recognise diversity within and between the countries of the Asia region. They will develop knowledge and understanding of Asian societies, cultures, beliefs and environments, and the connections between the peoples of Asia, Australia, and the rest of the world. Asia literacy provides students with the skills to communicate and engage with the peoples of Asia so they can effectively live, work and learn in the region.
Students are taught content from 2 interrelated Strands:
– Communicating consisting of sub strands of :
Socialising, Informing, Creating, Translating and Reflecting
– Understanding consisting of sub strands of :
Systems of Language, Language and Change, Language and Culture.
It is the schools aim that students demonstrate the appropriate knowledge and skills in Japanese language and also develop a love of Japanese culture and of language learning in general.
