Dear Students, Parents and Carers.
Welcome back to Week 2 of the 2021 school year, our students’ first week..?
Last night I was happy to hear that school for 2021 can officially commence face to face –
albeit with adults wearing masks, at Cottesloe Primary, on Monday 8th February. With bush
fires, cyclones and COVID affecting Western Australia, our ability to go with the flow, be
resilient and to think of our fellow citizens, has never been more put to the test. I would like
to think individually and collectively, we are passing this test with flying colours.
I would like to acknowledge our Cleaning, Gardening, Office and Executive Team for the work
they have put in over the past week, ensuring the school is ready, with processes in place, to
welcome students and their families for the first time this year. I also want to thank our
teaching staff as they have been busy preparing to deliver a Learning from Home program,
had the lock down continued. Thank goodness it hasn’t!
Due to existing COVID restrictions, there are still a number of requirements in place to ensure
the health and wellbeing of students, staff and community members at Cottesloe Primary.
The focus on good hand hygiene and staying away from school when ill remains as does the
regular cleaning of desks, play-ground equipment and common areas throughout the day. The
Premier’s announcement sees the introduction of some additional measures:
• Adults must wear masks until restrictions are eased
• Staff will be wearing masks at school. They are able to remove these when providing
instruction to classes
• The Department has provided schools with a supply of masks – which we will have
available for staff
• Parents are welcome onsite with masks – no mass gatherings of over 150 adults
• Social distancing and the four square meter rule must be followed by adults in
classrooms
• No assemblies or mass gatherings for parents over the next week. This means events
scheduled for Week 2 (Year 6 Camp moved to Week 3) cannot go ahead.
• Primary students are not required to wear masks
Limits on the number of adults in enclosed areas remains, which means there will be impact
on how Day One of 2021 will operate. For this week there can be no more than 150 people on
site, which offers particular challenges on the first day of school.
Please note the following instructions to support the implementation of these directions:
Student Drop Off
Across the school, depending on Year level, each class will have a process in place to limit the
number of adults in the classroom at one time. The common theme across the school is the
expectation parents will not linger on site after the student drop off.
Kindergarten Parents have been informed of a staggered start.
The plan is an ideal, and if parents can support the plan, it would be
appreciated. If they can’t support the plan, we will be understanding.
All children and their families will be welcome and supported, no
matter what the decision is. We are hoping the groups that were
planned to attend ½ day continue to do so. If they cannot and the
children need to attend full day, that is fine. On Wednesday, it would be
appreciated if the morning group could only stay for the morning and
the afternoon group, stay for the afternoon. But if the children need to
stay all day, they will be cared for and taught.
Pre Primary Please drop your child’s bag at their name tag outside the classroom
Child/parent conduct a self guided walk through of class – in one door
and out the other.
Children and parents meet and mingle outside in the PP playground
8.50 Hand bell rings- parents and encouraged to leave.
Children sit on “the stairs” in a group and the teachers read a story.
At completion of the story children move to classrooms with staff.

Pre Primary Students greeted outside the classroom in the Pre Primary playground.
Year 1 Johnston St Oval

Year 5 – 6 Students leave the site as planned with parents and carers
All families are reminded to leave the school site as quickly as possible unless there are
planned activities which have been approved.
Parents will be invited to visit the classrooms during the first weeks of school. These
opportunities and timings will be communicated with you via CONNECT.
All classes will be conducting a Class Meeting in Week Two or Three. The purpose for the
meeting is to share expectations and describe class processes. It is also a great opportunity to
briefly meet your child’s teacher. In Weeks Seven to Nine, all parents will be invited to attend
individual meetings to allow for personalised and information sharing about student needs
and performance. Please be reminded you are able to schedule a meeting with your child’s
teacher.
What I do know about our staff and school community is that although the times ahead may
bring changes and challenges we will continue to show perseverance, respect and kindness.
I am grateful for your support and patience, as they are both needed and appreciated. See
you Monday
